# Categories and brands

> Organise your products into nested categories and brands so you and the AI agent can find them faster.

Categories and brands group your products. They make the product list easier to filter, and they help the AI agent narrow down requests like "Samsung phones" or "skin care". You manage them in **Settings > Categories & Brands**, which is available to business admins.

## Categories

Categories can be nested as deep as you like, for example **Phones > Android > Samsung**.

- **Add a top-level category**: click **Add** in the **Categories** panel, type the name and press Enter. Press Esc to cancel.
- **Add a sub-category**: hover over a category and click **+**.
- **Rename**: hover over a category and click the pencil.
- **Move**: drag a category onto another to make it a sub-category. To move it back to the top level, drop it on **No parent (root)**.

Categories with sub-categories show how many they contain and start collapsed. Two categories under the same parent can't have the same name, but the same name can appear under different parents.

## Brands

Brands are a simple list, grouped alphabetically.

- **Add**: click **Add** in the **Brands** panel, type the name and press Enter.
- **Rename**: hover over a brand and click the pencil.

## Delete a category or brand

1. Hover over it and click the trash icon.
2. If products use it, choose what happens to them under **Transfer products to**: **Leave unassigned**, or move them to another category or brand.
3. Click **Delete**.

Transferring products is also how you merge two categories or brands: delete the one you no longer want and transfer its products to the other. When you delete a category that has sub-categories, the sub-categories move to the top level.

## Other ways to assign them

You don't have to visit this page to use categories and brands:

- On the [Products](/owners/catalog/products/) page, pick or create a category or brand directly in a product's row.
- Select several products and use **Assign category/brand**.
- Include **Category** and **Brand** columns when importing products. Missing ones are created automatically.
- Products synced from an [integration](/owners/integrations/overview/) bring their categories and brands with them.
